Frequently Asked Questions About Our Services
When property damage strikes, you have plenty of questions and very little time to find answers. We’ve compiled the most common questions we hear from homeowners and business operators throughout Outer Banks, NC to help you make informed decisions about your restoration project. As a Veteran Owned Company with over 26 years of combined industry expertise, we believe that an informed client is a confident client.
Our team has heard just about every question imaginable during the loss consulting and restoration process. Below, you’ll find detailed answers that reflect our experience working alongside insurance carriers, mortgage companies, and property owners across Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Colington, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla, & Outer Banks, NC. If your specific question isn’t covered here, reach out directly and we’ll walk you through your situation step by step.
We operate as a dual-role firm, offering both Loss Consulting and full restoration services. This integrated approach means you don’t have to juggle multiple companies, contracts, or timelines. From the moment damage occurs to the final walkthrough, one team handles everything. That continuity reduces miscommunication, prevents finger-pointing between vendors, and dramatically shortens the path from claim to completion.
We’re also GAF Certified, Fortified Roof Certified, and proud participants in the NC Roof Program. These certifications aren’t just credentials on paper. They reflect ongoing training, adherence to manufacturer specifications, and access to enhanced warranty options that smaller, uncertified contractors simply cannot offer. When we install a roofing system, you receive the full benefit of those certifications, including extended labor and material warranties when applicable.
After you file a claim, your insurance carrier assigns an adjuster who reviews the loss. In many cases, the adjuster never visits your property in person. Instead, they assign a mitigation and restoration estimator like our firm to conduct the onsite inspection, document damage, and submit an estimate on their behalf. Once approved, we move forward with mitigation, then restoration.
A common source of confusion is the cause of loss versus the resulting damage. Insurance covers the damage caused by a covered event, but it does not cover repairing the original source of the problem. For example, if a pipe burst and flooded your kitchen, the carrier pays to repair the kitchen but not to replace the failed pipe. The cause of loss must be repaired out of pocket before mitigation can begin, and that cost is separate from your deductible.
Contractor selection can make or break your claim experience. Here are the key factors we recommend evaluating before signing any work authorization.
- Carrier Relationships Contractors with established working relationships with insurance carriers can communicate hidden damages and code-related issues more effectively on your behalf
- Proper Licensing and Insurance Verify that the contractor is licensed and insured in the state where the work will be performed whether that’s Virginia or North Carolina
- Manufacturer Certifications Certifications like GAF and Fortified Roof indicate ongoing training and access to enhanced warranty coverage
- Mortgage Endorsement Assistance A capable firm will help you navigate the mortgage company endorsement process which can otherwise delay your project significantly
- Recoverable Depreciation Handling Ask whether the contractor allows you to defer recoverable depreciation until the carrier releases funds rather than requiring upfront payment
We provide comprehensive restoration for storm damage, hurricane damage, fire damage, water damage, and tree impact damage. Our services extend to insurance roof replacements, hurricane insurance roof repair, and full exterior transformations. Whether you’re dealing with wind-torn shingles, smoke and soot residue, saturated drywall, or structural compromise from a fallen tree, our team has the equipment and expertise to mitigate the situation and restore your property.
Mitigation and restoration are two distinct phases. Mitigation involves immediate actions like water extraction, drying equipment installation, antimicrobial treatment, board-up services, and securing structural integrity. Restoration is the comprehensive rebuild that follows, including drywall replacement, flooring installation, electrical repairs, repainting, HVAC restoration, and rebuilding structural elements. Both phases require different skill sets, and we handle both seamlessly under one roof.
Your insurance company issues a check based on the approved estimate, typically made payable to you and your mortgage company. If you own your home outright, the check is solely in your name. You’re responsible for your deductible, which is paid before insurance coverage applies.
When we’re the assigned contractor under a Managed Repair Program, no additional estimates are needed and the carrier covers our fee directly. We also guide you through endorsing the check and obtaining mortgage company approvals so restoration can begin without unnecessary delays. One call truly does it all.
